Blogging
A personal touch style of writing can add a lot of fun to a blog. When people are looking for answers online they want things to sound personable and relatable. Consumers go online looking for answers, it is usually in a casual capacity and not in a research academic state of mind. When posts are personal people stop and listen and review. Consumers are saying in their heads, hey I get it I agree with them, this company/person is just like me.
It makes sense to add a personal touch to a blog when someone is telling a funny store or explaining a frustration that had a good outcome. It is not a good idea to add a funny touch that ha a bad outcome, if it does the outcome would need to have a sliver linings to it. When discussing serious topics it is best to stick with the facts. Serious topics include death, or death protocol. That is not the time to be funny.
Having a personal tone and serious tone in my business would work. Typically voiceovers are fun and exciting depending on the topic. If the topic is for a narration for a hospital and I am describing the work in a blog post a serious tone would be best, so I could connect with that type of clientele. If the blog post is about an animation short or an animation voice for a cartoon, the post can be more fun in nature/ personal.
Lens Crafters came to mind right away. Their blog posts can be personal in nature when discussing some of the frame lines that they carry. While they still can have a serious tone when speaking about eye safety or eye health. They can reach more customers by doing both, people who are looking for factual information and the other customers who are looking for something fun and lighthearted.
I think most businesses can benefit from having both, but law firms may just want to stay facts depending on the type of law firm. A family law firm, may want to have a serious tone instead of personal in nature. While a funeral home may want to sound a little personal and serious, because a customer may be looking for comfort(personal) and serious (as a person in their life has just passed on).
I prefer personal writing for my own website, but I will have to practice on my more serious so I can get different clients.
Wonderful point about consumers looking for answers and relatable content. I believe you are also right about displaying more than one tone or style to attract more clients.
