Week1 B: Social Media Use Today

Social Media usage today depends on who is using it. It can be very toxic or it can be a great tool to connect and grow. In short social media is a gift and a curse for many. I have had many pleasant and unpleasant experiences on social media over the years.

My social media experience started way back in the 90s and AOL when social media was being born really. Back in my day (lol), we used a thing called dial-up.  We had chat rooms and message boards to use. That was an interesting time and experience. My friends and I would "roam" around chat rooms talking to whoever about whatever. Not realizing the consequences of our actions. The same way people do today, just it is easier now, as there are smartphones, tablets, and quick easy access to the internet compared to long ago. Naturally, over time my social media usage has changed as my needs have changed and social media itself has grown up and evolved.

Many platforms can be used for personal while some are more apporiate for business. Examples for personal use include sites as Instagram, Snapchat and Facebook. Just about all social media platforms can be used for business. Businesses can prompt their product, or look to hire people. It seems now that all companies use all platforms of social media to market their services or goods.  Everytime I look on twitter or Instagram I see an ad for just about anything I can think of or anything that I have searched for in the past few days.

You might ask, but Regina how do you use social media? I mostly use it to look for goods or services that I may need. I am rarely going on to see how people are doing, becuase people only but out what they want you to see. I have found this can be depressing. People look like they are having such a great time. Then you think to yourself what am I doing with my own time. I usually answer myself with a big "NOTHING". Even though I know that it is not true at all.  After I throw myself a little pitty party and look at my lack of presence on social media. I then check out the news on Twitter, check Instagram to see some new fashion or home looks. Then, I go to Linkedin just to keep abreast to what some of my favorite companies are doing and if any companies have interesting positions open.

This posts image. It is a picture of tractor seats that I took at the Route 66 Museum in Oklahoma. Like social media there is a good and bad side. The good of a tractor seat is that it looks good on the wall as a piece of art. The bad is that it can be really uncomfortable to sit in.
